LIS tasks (What will be the LIS responsibilities for this lesson?): Sharing the stories.Helping students appreciate that information can be in the form of fictional stories.Introduction to gather data--
1st Session – Classroom teacher will follow a KWL pattern with students about spiders-- the Librarian uses Kidspiration to help students organize their questions and facts. Students will then listen to Diary of a spider.Students will identify the setting and chracters in the story.Students will be introduced to the fact that a story can teach you some facts. Librarian will continually refer back to the questions and answers in the graphic organizer – editing and changing as students acquire information from the text.The Librarian will pose the question about how Cronin found out enough about spiders to write this hilarious story.Talk about imposition of human characteristics on animals as an element of fiction!
Classroom Teacher(s)(What will be the classroom teacher(s) responsibilities for this lesson?): 2nd Session – Students return to the library to explore The spider webpage and enjoy the gory pictures!Teachers divide the webpage up among the students so that each group of two is looking for a fact about their particular part of the question.Students will share their information orally at the conclusion of the days activity.
Student Activities and/or Product (Attach any handouts of instruction provided for the students). Students will make a Web of Facts – using Black construction Paper, glue, and glitter.They will write their interesting fact on paper to staple to the back of their glittery web!
Evaluation (Attach rubric used for assessment of the product produced by the lesson).
